It was thirty years ago on the day I was born, the night was dark as hell
Mommy didn’t come home that night, Daddy had said she fell
But I just didn’t believe him
I was upstairs and my room was cold and the hall light was turned on
I called for my dog to come up to bed, but Daddy had said he let her out
And I just didn’t believe, she always came when I called

When I looked into the closet and in the darkness did I see
I saw the devil looking back at me and my soul he tried to take
And there where the light had leaked under the door
I saw my Daddy’s shadow growing bigger on the floor, coming to knock down my door
I don’t want to be here no more

But the darkness creeps
Into my head and as I sleep

Although I didn’t know my Daddy for that long,
I knew that he had strength and I knew that he belonged
He had a woman on his arm
And then when the light shown all around in truth
I saw my little body floating up above the floor,
I had a tear in my eye, and I don’t know why
