Hey folks,
So, Jessee and I did go down to Memphis, TN for the Folk Alliance International Music Conference a couple of weeks ago. We had an awesome time in the Manitoba Music room, and played an awesome showcase in the Beaver Suite. We made some great friends and heard excellent music from all across Canada and the US.
Unfortunately, my time at the conference had to be cut short due to a unexpected appendectomy. Yup, I woke up on the Thursday with crazy stomach pains and by the evening I was rolling in agony all over the hotel bed. Jessee finally grabbed me out of bed, pushed me into a cab and rushed me to The MED. Early next morning I had my appendix removed and woke up in a hospital bed, having to eat terrible food and watched TV with a weird remote control that would only have one button. You flipped through the channels and the last channel would turn the TV off every rotation. But Jessee brought guests like Del Barber, Kerrie Woelke and Brent Warren to keep me company through the day. Finally , the wonderful nurses and doctors of the MED discharged me after showing them I could walk and fart.
The rest of the conference was spent in bed watching the Olympics and episodes of Big Love, which incidentally was what I was feeling from all of our friends and peers joining us in Memphis. The weekend ended and we drove home, back through the snow and wind.
It’s good to home and healed. We have some great shows this week in Dauphin and Winnipeg. Hope to see you there, I’ll show you all my scars.
Sncerely,
JD
